College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 8
By Zach Bigalke
Clemson came out again in Week 7 and did exactly what we expected of them against an inferior, overmatched opponent like Georgia Tech. The Tigers mauled the Yellow Jackets in a 73-7 drubbing that pushed Dabo Swinney’s team to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in ACC play. While Alabama-Georgia presents a chance for some first-place votes to slough away from the Tigers, there is no reason to expect a drop out of No. 1 in the AP Top 25 heading into Week 8 play.
Trevor Lawrence gashed the Georgia Tech secondary repeatedly throughout the game, finishing 24-of-32 for 404 yards and five touchdowns. Lawrence did throw one interception, but the Yellow Jackets promptly fumbled the ball back to the visitors. Travis Etienne had a relatively quiet day, finishing with 44 rushing yards and a touchdown along with 29 receiving yards.
The degree of difficulty doesn’t get much harder in Week 8, as Clemson takes on a Syracuse team that just lost to Liberty by double digits. For the defending ACC champions, their next real test must wait until the first weekend of November when they travel to South Bend to take on Notre Dame under the gaze of Touchdown Jesus.
