College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 8
By Zach Bigalke
Marshall remained among the dwindling number of undefeated teams in Week 7 with a straightforward 35-17 takedown of Louisiana Tech in Ruston on Saturday. The Thundering Herd improved to 4-0 and claimed sole possession of the lead in the C-USA East race at 2-0 in league play. Entering Week 7 as the first team that missed the cut in the AP Top 25 among the others receiving votes, the Herd will land on the right side of the line heading toward Week 8.
Brenden Knox carried the ball 32 times, piling up 125 yards and two touchdowns against a Bulldog defense that had no answer for his hard-charging style. The Thundering Herd defense, meanwhile, held Louisiana Tech to only seven total rushing yards. Grant Wells offered competent balance at quarterback for the Herd, completing 19 of his 24 passes for 227 yards, with two passing touchdowns and another on the ground.
That means Marshall should be ranked in Week 8 for their home showdown against Florida Atlantic. If the Owls — who continue to deal with a COVID-19 outbreak on their team that led to postponement of the Week 6 tilt against Southern Miss — are actually able to make the trip to Huntington, that game will effectively serve as the tiebreaker for the C-USA East.
