3. Year one of Mike MacIntyre shows flashes, but needs work

One of the bigger named hires for a coordinator was Mike MacIntyre as the defensive coordinator in Memphis. He served six seasons as the head coach at Colorado, and had success with the Buffaloes.

Last season, MacIntyre was with Ole Miss as their defensive coordinator before making the move slightly north.

Memphis has not had a tremendous amount of defensive talent go through and aren’t used to playing defensive slugfest. Only three games into 2020, the defense does not look much different than in the past.

Obviously, a coordinator needs more time to fully put together his defense. A big play for that unit was a strip of Otis Anderson inside the five. It would have put the Knights up three scores, but instead gave the Tigers the ball and momentum as they would turn it into a touchdown.

Although, not the biggest of plays, it gave Memphis some sort of momentum. That was enough in the end, to secure a hellacious victory.
