Louisville came to town and put a good scare in Notre Dame football on Saturday afternoon. Here are some of the biggest hot takes from the Irish win.

If you’re a Notre Dame fan, you have to be wondering what the heck just happened on Saturday afternoon. Once a year, it seems, the Irish have an ugly win against an opponent they should have wiped the floor with and this year, it was Louisville.

The Cardinals put up a major fight against the No. 4 Irish in South Bend, holding a 7-6 lead in the second half before an Ian Book touchdown run put Louisville away for good.

It wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win. Notre Dame needs to win these games big in order to stay up in the playoff race, but luckily there’s still over half a season left.

Here are three of my hottest takes from Notre Dame’s ugly win over Louisville.

3. Kyren Williams is one of the nation’s best backs

If there’s one running back in college football that doesn’t get nearly the respect or recognition he deserves, it would have to be Kyren Williams. The sophomore is having a huge season.

Not only is he having a breakout year, leading the Irish backfield, but he’s flying under the radar in a big way. Coming into Saturday’s game against Louisville, Williams had 359 yards and four touchdowns on 7.5 yards per carry but he only added to those numbers with a 127-yard performance, putting his total at 486 yards on the year.

Williams led the offense on a day when Ian Book was struggling and the run game was the only thing moving the ball. He continues to impress and it’s tough to name even 10 better running backs in the country better than him this season.
