South Carolina football defeated the Auburn Tigers for the first time in nearly 90 years and we discuss the takeaways from this historic victory.

On Saturday afternoon, the South Carolina Gamecocks did something they haven’t been able to do since 1933: they defeated the Auburn Tigers, 30-22.

Auburn came into the game ranked No. 15 following a questionable win over Arkansas while South Carolina secured its first win of the season last week.

Let’s get straight to the takeaways from Saturday’s historic win.

3. The Gamecocks do, in fact, have a defensive line

South Carolina’s defensive line was nearly non-existent in the first two games of the season, and against the worst offense in the SEC, it wasn’t hard to stop the ball in the victory over Vanderbilt last week.

On Saturday, the Gamecocks defense showed up and showed out, especially Jaycee Horn who had two interceptions against Auburn’s Bo Nix. In between Horn’s interceptions, Nix also had a pass intercepted by Jaylin Dickerson.

Not only did Nix struggle with interceptions, but he was also sacked three times, twice by Keir Thomas and Kingsley Enagbare added another sack to his stats for this season. Shilo Sanders led the team with 10 tackles, nine of them solo, and Thomas was right behind him with eight tackles, all solo, and two tackles for loss.
