Big 12 Football Power Rankings, Week 8: West Virginia building resume
By Phil Poling
10. Kansas Jayhawks (0-4, 0-3)
Saturday’s game versus West Virginia was the perfect game to put the conference on notice and for the Jayhawks to say, “Look at us! We can compete!” And, well, they did for a little while, but got exposed in the second half, ultimately losing 38-21. With all eyes on this game in the conference, the Jayhawks let an opportunity slip away that they might not be able to get back.
9. Texas Tech Red Raiders (1-3, 0-3)
The Red Raiders have dropped three consecutive games — all in the Big 12 — after winning their opener against Houston Baptist. And while they’ve underwent a change at quarterback, I’m unsure if that’ll be enough to beat West Virginia the next time they take the field.
8. Baylor Bears (1-1, 1-1)
What can we even make of the Baylor Bears at this point? They’ve have three games postponed/cancelled due to COVID-19, and their lone victory on the season was against Kansas, 47-14. Placing them any higher – against teams who’ve actually played an won games — would be giving them the same treatment of a Notre Dame or Miami. And let’s be honest, Baylor isn’t getting the benefit of the doubt like those schools consistently do.
