There was a huge shakeup in the top five in college football’s Week 7. There is a brand new projected four teams for the 2020 playoff.

This past weekend, we saw one of the most anticipated games of the year in the chase for a College Football Playoff spot. The No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs at No. 2 Alabama was one of the most anticipated matchups of the season around the nation.

Going into the weekend, this felt like one of the first playoff games of the season. Instead, it became an indication that what teams were starting to look serious for the playoff.

The Crimson Tide defeated the Bulldogs 41-24 as they remain the only undefeated team in the SEC. The list of elite teams and teams worthy of the chase for the College Football Playoff is shrinking.

This past Saturday, No. 5 North Carolina wanted to show why it was worthy of an ACC title game appearance and a shot at the College Football Playoff. The Tar Heels had to continue their success against a struggling Florida State team. Instead, they had problems trying to drive down the field. The Seminoles out-scored the Tar Heels 31-7 in the first half and that was all they needed.

There were other teams such as No. 15 Auburn and No. 18 Tennessee that had significant losses to unranked teams. These significant losses bumped these teams out of the College Football Playoff talk.

Each week is another opportunity for some teams to fall out of contention for the playoff.

There are a few teams that are in serious contention for the College Football Playoff. Three teams in particular are considered the elite group while that fourth spot is likely the at-large sport. Here are the projected top four of the playoff field after Week 7.
