Notre Dame Football: 3 bold predictions vs. Pitt in Week 8
1. Notre Dame wins on last-second field goal
Many, including myself, believe that Notre Dame could be in some trouble this weekend, traveling to Heinz Field to take on a tough Pitt squad.
Fortunately for the Irish, Pittsburgh is on quite the slide, losing three straight games after starting the year 3-0 and two of those were absolute heartbreakers. This is a team that could very well be 5-1 or 6-0, but the Panthers can’t seem to figure out how to close games.
That will work out in Notre Dame’s favor on Saturday.
Pittsburgh will get out to an early lead and hold that almost for the entirety before Notre Dame storms back and takes a lead with five minutes left in the fourth. Pitt will tie it up with a field goal before Ian Book and the Irish march down the field, set up for a 38-yarder and Jonathan Doerer hits it as time expires to give Notre Dame the big win.
This won’t make AP voters feel very good about the Irish’s top-five ranking heading into Sunday’s rankings, but they will have no choice but to keep them there.
Is Notre Dame’s ranking fraudulent? Maybe. But a win’s a win.
