Auburn will travel to face Ole Miss football on Saturday afternoon and the Tigers are looking to get back on track. The Rebels have other ideas.

Who would have thought before the season started that Ole Miss and Auburn would be battling it out for a spot in the top four in the SEC West? Not me. Probably not anyone.

However, that’s where we are as Auburn and Ole Miss are getting set to square off in Oxford on Saturday afternoon. Lane Kiffin will try to do his best Nick Saban impression and down the Tigers to improve to 2-3 on the season while knocking Auburn down to the same record.

Ole Miss has one of the best offenses in the conference led by surprise starter Matt Corral who was expected to back up John Rhys Plumlee this season.

Bo Nix leads a disappointing Auburn offense and is in a bit of a sophomore slump after being dubbed a preseason Heisman contender.

Strange things may be afoot come Saturday at noon.

3. Auburn not equipped for shootout

Let’s face it, Auburn isn’t equipped for a shootout and that’s exactly what Ole Miss is going to turn this game into. The Tigers don’t quite have the offense to keep up with the Rebels, averaging 21.8 points and about 367 yards per game. That’s not going to do it here.

Auburn’s defense hasn’t exactly been as dominant as in years past either, allowing over 390 yards and 24.5 points per game which is music to Lane Kiffin’s ears.

Not only does Ole Miss have one of the best aerial attacks in the nation (335 yards per game), it also has a solid run game led by Jerrion Ealy, a former blue-chip recruit. The Rebels average nearly 205 yards per game on the ground and can put up points, averaging 36.5 per game.

Auburn isn’t equipped for this shootout. Ole Miss is.
