College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 9
By Zach Bigalke
Miami took care of business at home against Virginia, sweating out a 19-14 victory to improve to 5-1 as they open up the back half of the regular season. Other than the loss to Clemson, Manny Diaz’s team has been a tough out for everyone else on their schedule to date. They should jump back into the top 10 of the AP Top 25 this week, even after the Big Ten gets a boost from their return in Week 8.
D’Eriq King was solid in victory for the Hurricanes offense, throwing for 322 yards on 21-of-30 passing and adding 28 rushing yards on 14 carries. King tossed a touchdown pass to Mike Harley, who finished with 10 receptions for 170 yards. Miami slowly pulled away in the second half, and the defense came through by holding the Cavaliers under 400 yards of offense to fend off the threat of a come-from-behind upset.
With this return to the top 10, Miami now heads into a bye over Halloween weekend. That means the Hurricanes have extra time to prepare for their Friday-night showdown in Week 10 in Raleigh against NC State.
