College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 9
By Zach Bigalke
After back-to-back losses against Kansas State and Iowa State knocked Oklahoma out of the AP Top 25, the Sooners played their way back in this week with a 19-point win on the road against TCU. Lincoln Riley’s team put up nearly 500 yards of offense on the Horned Frogs, building up an early lead and never letting the hosts get back in the contest. Look for Oklahoma to land one of the final few spots as one of two teams to make it into the poll with two losses on their record.
Spencer Rattler completed only 13 of his 22 passes, but still threw for 332 yards and a pair of touchdowns. T.J. Pledger added 122 yards and a rushing score on 22 carries, singlehandedly outscoring a TCU ground game that netted only 75 yards on 25 combined carries. The Oklahoma defense forced Max Duggan to try to win the game with his arm, and he fell short of the mark despite going 25-of-35 for 276 yards and a touchdown.
Next week the Sooners should sport a number somewhere in the 20s when they head to Lubbock for a Halloween donnybrook against Texas Tech. While Oklahoma sits two games back in the Big 12 race, they have a real chance to play spoiler and play their way back into the conference battle even if another College Football Playoff berth is probably out of reach at this point.
