1. Louisville is better than its record indicates

If you look at team records only when determining just how good teams are, you might be missing the mark with Louisville.

The Cardinals entered Saturday’s game with a 1-4 record and were victims of four straight losses in ACC play, but they were never really blown out in any game. You could argue that Miami and Georgia Tech were “blowouts” but that’s not the case. The Hurricanes held off a Louisville charge early in the year and Georgia Tech pulled away late in the matchup with the Cardinals.

Louisville also has a three-point loss at No. 21 Pitt and five-point defeat at No. 4 Notre Dame. Those two games could have easily gone the other way and we’d be talking about a 4-2 Louisville team with a couple of ranked wins and a 32-point blowout of Florida State.

The Cardinals have plenty of talent on offense like Malik Cunningham, Marshon Ford, Javian Hawkins, Tutu Atwell and Dez Fitzptrick but the defense has been holding them back.

If the defense can catch up even a little, this Louisville team is going to finish the 2020 season red-hot.
