Ohio State football kicked off its Big Ten slate in true Buckeyes style, with a convincing 52-17 win over Nebraska. What did we learn?

Big Ten football is finally back, and the first Saturday of action was kicked off in the Shoe. Ohio State comes back with their high-powered offense looking to finish what they started in 2019. Nebraska looks to finally get their program on track after three straight losing seasons.

Nebraska came out of the gate pushing the ball very well. Luke McCaffrey was able to follow in his brother’s footsteps and break off a huge 47-yard run on the first drive of the game. Adrian Martinez made good throws and was able to run the ball well himself. With four minutes left, this game was all tied at 14 and Nebraska looked like they could hang.

Justin Fields just proved to be too much of a problem as he got his 2020 Heisman campaign off to a tremendous start. Fields completed his first 11 pass attempts, and was the leading rusher for the Buckeyes for most of the game.

Ohio State controlled the tempo of the second half and was able to turn a Martinez fumble into six points the other way to close the door shut.

The score can be a bit misleading as Nebraska did their best to battle against a heavyweight opponent. But in the end there was no answer for fighting out of their weight class.

What did we learn from this first Saturday in Columbus?
