Notre Dame football needed to make a statement against Pitt on Saturday and the Irish did just that. Time for some hot takes.

Notre Dame needed to make a statement and it did just that, smacking Pitt around for four quarters at Heinz Field on Saturday afternoon en route to a 45-3 win.

The Irish looked like the team we all expected before the season as both the offense and defense combined for a complete game and Ian Book finally resembled like his old self. Pitt was expected to be the Irish’s toughest test yet, but that didn’t quite come to fruition.

Let’s get into some hot takes from Saturday’s win.

3. The Irish defense is national title-worthy

Look at what Notre Dame’s defense just did to a Pitt team that was expected to improve offensively this year. It was straight-up assault.

Sure, the Panthers were without Kenny Pickett who was still out with an injury and Joey Yellen was given the nod but he showed promise against Miami a week before. What Notre Dame did to him should be illegal in 50 states. He was just 10-for-27 for 101 yards and three interceptions with zero touchdowns. He looked terrible.

The Irish also had three sacks, six tackles for loss and six QB hurries. They made him look like just what he is: an inexperienced freshman.

As for Notre Dame’s run defense, it allowed just 44 yards on 20 carries which is good for just over two yards per touch.

This defense is national title-worthy.
