1. Chanticleers will dominate on defense

The big difference between the two teams statistically comes in the number of yards allowed this season. The Chanticleers have allowed 345 yards while the Panther has allowed 465.3 yards up to this point.

Teddy Gallagher leads his team with 39 total tackles on the season and has a half-sack on the books and Silas Kelly is right behind Gallagher with 37 total tackles and three sacks. C.J. Brewer and Jeffrey Gunter are both tied for the team-high 3.5 sacks each. Coastal Carolina’s defensive line has put a total of 371 tackles, 17 sacks for 107 yards, 12 pass deflections, seven interceptions for 82 yards, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries on the books in the first five games.

The Panthers’ defensive stats aren’t as impressive and this will probably cost them the game, even if McCall doesn’t play. Georgia State has recorded 268 total tackles this season, nearly 100 fewer tackles than Coastal Carolina and they have 13 sacks for 90 yards. The Panthers do lead the Chanticleers in pass deflections, nearly doubling them with 23, and they also have seven interceptions on the season, but for 114 yards.

The Panthers have posted one defensive touchdown this season, five forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. This defensive line will have to stop the Chanticleers offensive line or it will be quite a lopsided score.

This has the potential to be a high scoring game, with both teams putting up several touchdowns, or a very lopsided event with one team dominating the field. Coastal Carolina has the motivation and the talent to remain undefeated and that’s what I expect to happen.
