Is the biggest upset of the season about to happen this week? Let’s take at the official college football upset alert for Week 9.

Week 8 wasn’t a great upset week, but the quality of football was absolutely there. It’s just the chaos that wasn’t.

It’s hard to expect that trend to keep up. Last week, only two top 25 teams lost to unranked opponents: Penn State and Virginia Tech. We did, however, get our first FCS upset as Jacksonville State defeated FIU 19-10.

This week features 18 ranked versus unranked games.

As for last week’s upset alert, teams warned went 4-2. North Carolina, Auburn, Notre Dame and Michigan all took care of business. Only two teams failed to beat the opponent. Penn State lost an incredibly controversial game that they dominated, but lost on a two point conversion in overtime in one of the closest reviews in college football history. San Jose State also best Air Force in a convincing win.

Teams on upset alert for the year are now 13-10-1. Finally, teams are living up to expectations. Who won’t this week?

As always, a disclaimer: A game considered an “upset alert” is just that, an alert.

4. Wyoming (vs. Hawaii)

A little Friday night special.

If we’re being honest, this may be cheating. Wyoming is only a one-point favorite over Hawaii. If roles were reversed, Hawaii would be on alert.

This is a toss up game for sure. Hawaii best Fresno State while Wyoming lost to Nevada in overtime.

Defense is supposed to be the strength of Wyoming, but that has to be called into question after giving up 37 points to Nevada. Hawaii’s offense didn’t miss a beat despite losing their quarterback to the NFL. Hawaii certainly looks like the better team based off last week’s results and it’s hard to go against the Warriors.
