Notre Dame football will be traveling to Atlanta to face hapless Georgia Tech but the Fighting Irish have a lot on the line in Week 9.

Notre Dame entered Week 8 with a tough road battle against Pitt and came away looking like a world-beater. The Irish dismantled a preseason contender in the ACC 45-3 on the road and improved to 5-0 on the year.

The Irish look like contenders in the ACC one week ahead of a matchup with Clemson and not only that, but they have the feel of serious playoff threats.

Could Notre Dame be caught looking ahead to Clemson next week with a road battle against Georgia Tech? Brian Kelly will do his best to make sure that doesn’t happen, but the Irish are almost due for a yearly letdown.

What could happen on Saturday afternoon in Atlanta?

3. Michael Mayer finishes with 100 yards

Baby Gronk is going to be fun to watch for the next few years in a Notre Dame uniform. We all know Notre Dame is a tight end factory and Michael Mayer is going to be the next star.

We all got a little taste of his potential against Pitt as he finished with a career-best five receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown. He was bullying Pitt’s defense all afternoon en route to a 45-3 win. Coming into the game, he had seven catches for 80 yards and a touchdown, but I think we are just seeing the beginning of his rise to stardom.

Mayer will have a career game against the Yellow Jackets who have one of the worst passing defenses in the nation, allowing over 280 yards per outing through the air.

Expect a 100-yard game for Mayer against Georgia Tech.
