BYU football will host Western Kentucky in Week 9 and a win for the Cougars would be huge for their New Year’s Six bowl hopes.

Six games into the 2020 season, BYU looks like one of the best teams in the country at 6-0 and there’s chatter about a potential playoff berth, defying the usual Group of Five omissions.

The Cougars have been running through every opponent and it’s unfortunate that they don’t quite have the strength of schedule to get them into that top four with ease. If COVID-19 didn’t hit, they would have had teams like Utah, Minnesota, Michigan State and Stanford on the schedule. Wins in all four of those would surely get them playoff consideration.

However, the Cougars will see Western Kentucky in Week 9 as they had to restructure their entire 2020 schedule.

Will the Cougars add to that New Year’s Six resume on Saturday night?

3. BYU has two 100-yard receivers

This prediction is based off the assumption that Gunner Romney will be healthy and ready to go. When he’s 100 percent, he’s one of the best receivers in the Group of Five and he had one heck of a start to the 2020 season.

The junior from Arizona has already set a career-high in yards and that’s while missing a game and only recording one reception for three yards in his most recent game against Houston.

Partner Romney with Dax Milne and you might just have the best 1-2 punch at receiver in the Group of Five, if healthy. Milne, also a junior, has 639 yards and five touchdowns on 37 receptions on the season and is on the Biletnikoff Award watch list halfway through the year.

If Romney is good to go on Saturday, he and Milne will each reach 100 yards.
