Notre Dame football is coming up on its biggest matchup of the season but let’s rewind and look at some hot takes from the Georgia Tech win.

Another week, another Notre Dame win over an inferior opponent. A week after dominating Pitt on the road for their most impressive win of the season, the Irish took down Georgia Tech 31-13 in Atlanta to improve to 6-0 on the year.

Now with a huge matchup against Clemson approaching, we are starting to get a good idea of how good this Notre Dame team really is.

New Year’s Six worthy? Sure. Playoff worthy? Not so sure. That Georgia Tech win was convincing, but not enough to sway many opinions from people who believe the Irish have plenty of work to do in order to earn that fourth playoff spot.

Now let’s get into the hot takes from the Irish win.

3. Notre Dame won’t win anything without a true WR1

Sometimes things don’t need fixing if they aren’t broken, but if you’re Notre Dame’s offense, how can you say the passing game isn’t at least an area of concern?

Ian Book doesn’t look like his 2018 or 2019 self and projected WR1 Braden Lenzy is out along with some other key receivers. Lenzy has just been announced as out 2-4 weeks so he could miss the entire month of November which could mean Notre Dame is in serious trouble.

The Irish did get Javon McKinley to break out for 93 yards on five receptions, but as a senior with very few sparks like this throughout his career, it’s easy to not read too much into this performance. He could still be a solid contributor.

No other receiver finished with more than 30 yards.

Not having a true WR1 or go-to target could end up killing the Irish down the stretch.
