3. No. 25 Liberty Flames  (6-0)

The Liberty Flames are the new kids on the block. In a literal sense, the Flames are one of the newer FBS teams. This is their third year in FBS, making the transition from FCS in 2018. This is their first top 25 ranking in the history of the school and are making serious noise this season. Liberty has one Power Five win this season and could end the season with three.

The Flames still have Virginia Tech and North Carolina State on their schedule before ending the season with Coastal Carolina. Even with a schedule that has Western Carolina and North Alabama, Liberty could be undefeated with three Power Five wins and a win over a top 20 program. That’s the makings of an at-large New Year’s Six bowl bid.

2. Coastal Carolina (6-0)

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, like the Liberty Flames, are one of the newest teams in FBS. The “Chants” transitioned from FCS in 2017. In four years, the Chanticleers have gone from 3-9 to undefeated and ranked No. 15. This season, Coastal has defeated Kansas for the second year in a row and Louisiana-Lafayette.

At very least this season Coastal Carolina wins its first conference championship in school history. If Cincinnati slips at any point this season. Coastal Carolina has the best argument of any Group of Five conference champion for the New Year’s Six, especially if Liberty is undefeated when they play at the end of the season.
