2. Miami’s defense has taken a step back

While it has not been the dominant unit that it has been in the past couple of years, Miami’s defense has mostly played pretty well in games against teams other than Clemson.

Against NC State, however, the Hurricanes were exposed badly in areas that they have struggled in all year and they were a big reason that Miami struggled.

Miami could not rush the passer at all and it allowed NC State’s backup quarterback Bailey Hockman to pick it apart for a large part of the night. Hockman has not played well for most of the season and it was really jarring to see him have so much time and be able to have so much success. Miami has not been able to force turnovers all year and Hockman was a turnover machine in other games this season.

The Hurricanes’ defense needs to play much better the rest of the season or it will be some tough sledding.
