College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 11
By Zach Bigalke
Georgia proved that their decision to bring in two graduate transfers at quarterback was a wise one in 2020. Unfortunately, neither played in the 44-28 loss to No. 8 Florida in the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party in Jacksonville on Saturday evening. Instead, the Bulldogs relied on two young quarterbacks in a critical game in SEC East play. As a result of the neutral-site defeat, Kirby Smart’s team is going to fall out of the top five (but remain in the top 10) of the next AP Top 25.
Stetson Bennett and D’Wan Mathis combined to go just 9-of-29 for 112 passing yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Zamir White busted a 75-yard touchdown run on the opening play of the game, but otherwise earned just six more handoffs and finished with 107 yards on the ground. Coupled with a weak defensive display that sacrificed 474 passing yards to Kyle Trask, Georgia had no answers for their rival on Saturday.
As a result, they will drop three to five spots in this week’s rankings. Smart’s charges will need to dust themselves off and get right back to winning ways in Week 11 at Missouri lest they suffer a deeper slide down the rankings. A two-loss Georgia team will need a lot of help to get back into the SEC East discussion, much less the College Football Playoff race.
