The first Pac-12 game of the season did not disappoint as USC football overcame a two-possession deficit to beat the Arizona State Sun Devils 28-27.
The Pac-12 is back after some serious doubts. It’s had the latest start among all conferences in the FBS. The first conference game of the season for the Pac-12 was a matchup that would be a huge indication of the race for the Pac-12 South.
USC hosted Arizona State in a key game for the Pac-12 South was played in an unusual setting. Usually, the Pac-12 plays its games at night but this one kicked off at 9 a.m. local time to get the eastern viewers watching. To many, this was the first time seeing the Trojans their high-powered offense led by quarterback Kedon Slovis and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
This was an early-season matchup between two of the top teams in the South division with different offensive schemes. Both the Trojans and the Sun Devils encountered key turnovers early in the game. As the Sun Devils fumbled the ball late in the second and the Trojans had two turnovers and a turnover on downs in each of the first and second half.
Despite the numerous mistakes from the Trojans was efficient enough on both sides of the ball for a quick and significant comeback to win 28-27 over Arizona State. USC takes an early lead in the Pac-12 title race for the South division as it’s also taking one step closer to the College Football Playoff race.
