2. Feleipe Franks was the more efficient quarterback

This game was featuring a mix of different offensive schemes led by two dual-threat quarterbacks in Arkansas’ Feleipe Franks and Tennessee’s Jarrett Guarantano. With both offenses having the capabilities to make plays in the short-to-mid-range passing game as well as in the running game, the opposing defenses were going to create serious pressure at the line of scrimmage.

Franks was up for the task against a highly aggressive Volunteers defense as helped the huge third-quarter comeback for Arkansas. He threw for 215 yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions and had a quarterback rating of 191.5 on 18-of-24 passing. He also ran the ball 14 times for 18 yards with his longest run being 24 yards. He was not the most dynamic playmaker on the ground for Arkansas but he got them into several big opportunities for first downs.

In the passing game, however, Franks was highly efficient in getting the ball to several different receivers. Sophomore wide out Treylon Burks caught five passes for 95 yards and a touchdown on seven targets. Junior wide receiver Mike Woods caught three passes for 64 yards and a touchdown on five targets. Senior tight end Blake Kern caught three passes for 40 yards and a touchdown, his first of the season.

Franks was the most poised and consistent quarterback of the game before the head injury to Guarantano. Even when Franks was sacked four times in the fourth quarter, he led them to a couple of clock-killing drives.

The biggest key for Franks was that he did not turn the ball over.
