Boise State Football: 3 takeaways from blowout win over Colorado State

Boise State football made quick work of Colorado State on Thursday night and the Broncos didn’t need much offense to do just that.

Boise State entered Thursday night fresh off its worst blowout loss in some time, losing to BYU 51-17 last weekend and searching for some answers after dropping out of the rankings.

The Broncos got the bounce-back they needed with Colorado State coming to town as they won convincingly thanks to some help from the special teams, 52-21.

Bryan Harsin’s team wanted to create more turnovers in this one, but he’ll settle for a couple of blocked punts returned for touchdowns and a block field goal returned 91 yards for a score.

3. The offense severely misses George Holani

It was nice to see Hank Bachmeier back and healthy on Thursday night and he helped the offense out plenty, but without George Holani, the Broncos are one-dimensional.

Andrew Van Buren was solid and scored a couple of touchdowns for the Broncos but they were all short runs and he didn’t show a ton of explosiveness. He’s more of a short-yardage back and Boise State seems to know that but he was tasked with being the workhorse yet again with Holani out for a second straight game.

Holani is one of the best backs in the Mountain West and without him, this offense just isn’t the same. The drop-off from Holani to Van Buren is drastic.

If Boise State wants to contend for the Mountain West crown, it needs to get Holani back and healthy.
