College Football: 5 Group of Five teams that’ll be on upset alert in Week 11
5. SMU (at Tulsa)
One of the most explosive offenses in the country, SMU, heads to Tulsa this Saturday in a pivotal AAC matchup. The winner will be alone in second place in the conference standings. That’s important because they did away with divisions in the AAC this season. You need to be top two in the entire conference to make it to the championship game.
So, how does Tulsa upset a ranked SMU team and keep their Cinderella season alive? Defense and more defense.
Tulsa is 44th in the country in yards allowed (375 yards per game) and 26th in scoring defense (21.3 points per game). They’re led by the runaway front runner for AAC defensive player of the year, Zaven Collins. Collins has been phenomenal, taking away opponent’s speed east to west in the wide open AAC.
If Tulsa, and they should have a good shot at doing this, can make SMU one dimensional they should be able to upset the Mustangs.
