College Football Playoff 2020 projections heading into Week 11
2. Ohio State Buckeyes (3-0)
The Big Ten is falling apart with some teams collapsing under pressure and then the effects of COVID-19 forcing cancellations. Of the five teams currently undefeated — three of them having a 3-0 record — not many would have guessed the teams in complete control of their destiny.
No. 3 Ohio State (3-0) is among those teams that were expected to make a big run for the Big Ten title and a spot in the College Football Playoff.
Three weeks into the season, they still look the part of playoff contention.
This past Saturday, the Buckeyes took down Rutgers which had beaten Michigan State two weeks prior. The Buckeyes took a 31-3 lead into halftime with 28 points coming in the second quarter.
The Buckeyes out-gained the Scarlet Knights 517-363 with 203 yards coming from the run game. Heisman Trophy frontrunner Justin Fields passed for 314 yards and five touchdowns on 24-of-28 completions. Fields, along with Alabama’s Mac Jones and Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, is continuing his impressive run at the Heisman Trophy.
This weekend, the Buckeyes were scheduled to travel to College Park to face Maryland. The game has been canceled due to the impact of COVID-19 within the Terps’ program. Ohio State will have four games left in the regular season and then a chance to play in the Big Ten title game on Dec. 19.
