Notre Dame football hits the road to face a familiar foe as Phil Jurkovec and Boston College are hoping to pull off an upset.

Hangovers in college football are real. Usually after a team wins its biggest game of the year, there’s some sort of letdown shortly after. When the celebration is over and it’s time to get back to work, that high can sometimes wear off quickly.

Notre Dame is fresh off its biggest win in the Brian Kelly era, beating No. 1 Clemson last weekend in overtime and the drop from that kind of high could be drastic.

The Irish get a tough matchup against Boston College on Saturday afternoon in Chestnut Hill and if there’s one team that could catch Notre Dame napping, it’s the Eagles. Plus, there’s the factor of former Irish backup quarterback Phil Jurkovec out looking for revenge.

Here’s why Notre Dame will stave off an upset, though.

3. Familiarity of Phil Jurkovec

Phil Jurkovec has been one of the best quarterbacks in the ACC this season and it has many Notre Dame fans wondering what could have been. What would the Irish look like this season if Jurkovec was under center instead of Ian Book?

That doesn’t much matter here, but what will benefit Notre Dame from this matchup is the fact that the Irish are familiar with the sophomore.

Notre Dame knows his strengths, weaknesses and how to defend him. The Irish know what throws he can and can’t make and that’s only going to help the defense game plan for him.

While I think Jurkovec is still going to get his yards, he might be more prone to turnovers and the Irish aren’t going to let him beat them deep.
