More than half of college football’s AP Top 25 teams did not play in Week 11 due to cancellations and postponements. How will it impact the new poll?

Over the course of the past week, news rang out from all around the country. Outbreaks of COVID-19 in locker rooms led conferences to call off a high number of games this weekend. Three of the top five teams in the AP Top 25 heading into the weekend were sidelined by the virus either in their locker room or throughout their opponent’s roster.

In total, 15 games were canceled or postponed — and with several of the teams impacted already dealing with rescheduling games postponed earlier in the season, there is no guarantee that those games will get played before pushing up against the drop-dead point in the season.

With the games that did get played going relatively according to chalk, there shouldn’t be that much shakeup in the AP Top 25 when it comes out ahead of Week 12 play on Sunday. We might see a team leapfrog a place or two here and there due to the number of teams that were either sidelined by the virus or scheduled to be idle.

NEXT THREE OUT

  • Boise State (3-1)
  • Tulsa (4-1)
  • Appalachian State (6-1)

There was some drama brewing late, and the latest projections reflect that as of halftime of the prime-time games. Oregon found themselves behind Washington State at halftime, threatening to shake up the rankings with Pac-12 After Dark mayhem. As of now, that shakeup has two teams dropping out of the rankings through no fault of their own.

In general, though, what we saw last week is largely what we will see again this week. Barring major upsets in the second half of prime-time games, here are our latest projections for the next AP Top 25.
