College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 12
By Zach Bigalke
After playing their way back into the AP Top 25 with a 48-11 blowout of defending College Football Playoff national champion LSU, Auburn was sidelined in Week 11. COVID-19 positives at Mississippi State forced the SEC to postpone the game, one of four that were pushed back by the league this week as the coronavirus impacts communities throughout the conference footprint. Voters in the AP Top 25 will be forgiving as they keep the Tigers in the poll another week.
Auburn has hardly been dominant in any one category, benefitting more from the SEC affiliation than any single aspect of their team performance. Bo Nix has been perfectly mediocre, ranking 65th nationally and seventh among SEC quarterbacks in passing efficiency. The defense gives up fewer than 23 points per game, but with an offense that averages just over four touchdowns it makes for stressful viewing on the Plains.
Auburn’s next game is scheduled at home in Week 12 against Tennessee, and then they square off against rival Alabama in the Iron Bowl on the road over Thanksgiving weekend. Texas A&M comes to Jordan-Hare Stadium on the first weekend of December before the make-up game at Mississippi State on December 12. The Tigers could still play their way into a New Year’s Six berth this year if they win out.
