College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 12
By Zach Bigalke
North Carolina pulled off a fourth-quarter comeback at home against Wake Forest to win a 59-53 barnburner on Saturday afternoon. The win was the sixth of the season for the Tar Heels and, after entering the week as the top team among others receiving votes in the AP Top 25, will result in Mack Brown’s team reentering the poll this week. North Carolina also kept their narrowed chances alive for a spot in the ACC championship game with the win.
Sam Howell threw for a whopping 550 yards and six touchdowns in the come-from-behind victory. Howell also ran in the winning touchdown with just over four minutes remaining, willing the Tar Heels to victory. North Carolina’s defense gave up more than 600 yards to the Demon Deacons, but they got enough stops to hold on for the win at home.
North Carolina will take a scheduled break in Week 12, giving them extra time to prepare for a Black Friday clash against Notre Dame in Chapel Hill. If the Tar Heels knock off the Fighting Irish on the day after Thanksgiving, they then follow up with a road trip to Miami that provides the slimmest of chances to climb back into the top two in the ACC.
