Penn State has been bad this season but Nebraska football has arguably been worse. That was until Saturday afternoon in Lincoln.

Scott Frost may have just put the final nail in James Franklin’s coffin in Happy Valley as Nebraska took a 27-6 lead early in the game and held on even with a late surge by Penn State to beat the Nittany Lions 30-23.

Nebraska was searching for that first win as well and Penn State gave it to them while falling to 0-4 on its own.

The Cornhuskers may be just 1-2, but there was plenty to be excited about in Lincoln for Nebraska fans, especially those who were worried that this team might just give up. The Cornhuskers showed signs of life and found a quarterback of the future.

What’d we learn from Nebraska’s first win?

3. There was a different energy from Nebraska

For the first time all season, it seemed like Nebraska was playing with confidence and energy and that showed in the first half as the Cornhuskers mounted a 21-point lead.

Nebraska was fired up from the opening kick and Scott Frost had to be happy with what he saw. This performance likely took him off the warm seat for the time being as his guys out-toughed Penn State for four quarters despite being out-gained in total yardage.

This was the type of performance fans have been waiting for and it was nice to see that these guys were playing with motivation and not just sleep-walking to another loss.

No one mailed it in on Saturday.
