Notre Dame football went on the road and picked up an important win over Boston College and former Irish backup quarterback Phil Jurkovec.

Man is Brian Kelly’s team ever cooking right now. Ever since that ugly 12-7 win over Louisville, the Fighting Irish have been on a roll, blowing out Pitt and Georgia Tech before beating No. 1 Clemson last weekend. On Saturday, the Irish stomped Boston College, 45-31.

The Irish have to feel good about this 8-0 start to the season with a few games remaining and a shot at a second College Football Playoff berth in three years.

Phil Jurkovec got a chance to beat his old team but the former Irish quarterback struggled against Notre Dame despite “practicing angry” all week long in preparation for this revenge battle.

Notre Dame won convincingly on Saturday and here’s what we learned.

3. Turnovers stopped a blowout

Notre Dame controlled the game for the latter three quarters and it just felt over when the Irish took a 31-16 lead in the first half. That’s not a shot at Boston College, but the Irish were just rolling and with how well they’ve played this season, a comeback just didn’t feel likely.

Plus, this is a zero year for Jeff Hafley and Co. He took over a program in a not-so-great place, but his team has held its own.

But it couldn’t take advantage of turnovers. The Irish turned the ball over three times on Saturday and while Boston College didn’t do much with them, Notre Dame probably could have made the final score look a little uglier.

It seemed like Notre Dame couldn’t hang on to the ball, losing three fumbles and nearly a fourth after a Jack Kiser interception in the third quarter which he immediately coughed up (and recovered).

Boston College is lucky this one wasn’t a bigger blowout.
