2. Notre Dame was more than ready for Phil Jurkovec

This game was personal for Phil Jurkovec. He felt like he wasn’t given a fair shot at Notre Dame as Ian Book started for both years he was in town and had the starting job in the bag for 2020. Jurkovec entered the transfer portal and chose Boston College based on the opportunity he had to start right away.

The ABC broadcast crew talked about how Jurkovec had been “practicing angry” all week as he wanted revenge on his former team and he looked like a quarterback possessed early on. He threw an impressive touchdown pass in the first quarter to give Boston College a 7-3 lead and his Eagles led 13-10 in the second quarter.

But the Irish suffocated him from that point on and he couldn’t get anything going.

Jurkovec had a solid start and his emotions probably carried him to that, but he came back down to earth once the Notre Dame defense got time to tee off on him and locked down those corners. He didn’t beat the defense much in the final three quarters. He finished with 272 yards and two touchdowns with an interception but he completed just 18-of-40 passes.

Notre Dame was more than ready for Jurkovec.
