1. When Ian Book is on, this offense is unstoppable

How good has Ian Book looked over the past few games? Ever since that blowout at Pitt, Book has looked like a different quarterback, turning his senior season around in a hurry.

I was ready to sound the “maybe Phil Jurkovec would have been a better option” alarm after his slow start to the 2020 season while the Boston College quarterback was breaking out, but after Saturday, it was clear that the Irish made the right choice by keeping Book as the starter.

Notre Dame looks like one of the two best teams in the country right now and Book is the reason for that. He is playing like he did a couple of years ago when the Irish last made the playoff and you could argue that he’s surpassed the sophomore version of himself this season over the past few games.

The coaching staff isn’t afraid to let him sling the ball around more and he’s putting up numbers without a true No. 1 receiver. He has Ben Skowronek and Javon McKinley as his top targets right now with the occasional breakout from someone like Avery Davis or Michael Mayer.

The run game also flourished as Book was playing well as he kept defenses honest. When the passing attack was working, the defense backed off and allowed the Irish to run. And then when the run game was dominating, the defense stepped up and Book took to the air.

On the day, Book finished with 283 yards and three touchdowns as well as 85 rushing yards and another score on 10 carries.

Book is making Notre Dame’s offense look unstoppable right now.
