South Carolina football coach Will Muschamp was fired on Sunday evening after five seasons. These are three coaches who could replace him.

As first reported by the Bruce Feldman of The Athletic, Will Muschamp is no longer the head football coach at South Carolina. He went just 28-30 in five seasons and 6-13 in the past two years. Muschamp is the first casualty in a year when the coaching carousel was not supposed to be volatile.

Muschamp came to South Carolina after first being hired as the coach in waiting at Texas, then the head coach at Florida. In four years as the head coach of the Gators, Muschamp went 28-21. During his time in Columbia, 2017 was his high-water mark, winning the Outback Bowl.

Despite Muschamp’s reputation as a defensive coach, the Gamecocks never seemed to have an identity under the former Georgia safety. The offensive coordinator job was a revolving door, and the Gamecocks never developed a quarterback. That’s not to say Muschamp did nothing for South Carolina. He improved the facilities and infrastructure in Columbia.

Muschamp just did not win enough games.

Who will South Carolina hire to replace Muschamp? Since South Carolina let Muschamp go so early, they have time to vet who they want to become their next head coach.

Here are three possible candidates.
