2. Appalachian State at Coastal Carolina

Everyone seems to have forgotten about App State, despite their 6-1 record. That’s what happens when you drop a game early in the season, are faced with cancellations due to COVID-19, and are outshined by conference mates who can boast Big 12 wins and unbeaten records. That’s where Coastal Carolina comes in. The Chanticleers are 7-0 with a Big 12 win over Kansas.

It’s a battle between conference power and conference upstart. Winner gets the inside track on a Sun Belt championship.

Coastal Carolina has put themselves in position to push for a New Year’s Six Bowl, and at No. 15 in the AP Poll — it’s the highest ranked Sun Belt team ever. The Chanticleers have gotten there on the back of freshman phenom Grayson McCall. He’s been the perfect fit for their spread option offense. They’ve been just as strong on defense, though, allowing less than a touchdown per game in their last three contests.

On the other side is App State, who has won the Sun Belt every year since 2016. They boast the best quarterback in the conference in Zac Thomas, and one of the best defenses in the country, allowing just 16.9 points per game. Oh, and like Coastal Carolina, they’re unbeaten in Sun Belt play.
