2. Iowa State attacked the Wildcats over the middle

At the beginning of the game, we found out that three starting front seven players would be out, due to COVID-19 concerns for Kansas State. Two linebackers and a defensive lineman would stay It was to the point where the Wildcats almost didn’t get to the COVID-19 threshold to play. However, they did play and it was not pretty for their defense.

Iowa State wins with big players and they did exactly that with targeting the middle of the field. Whether it was Breece Hall, Charlie Kolar or Xavier Hutchinson, Brock Purdy had no fear of testing Kansas State in the spots that they knew they were vulnerable in.

Hall would finish with 135 yards and two touchdowns on nine yards per carry. Even with the down numbers in terms of starters, Iowa State did exactly what conference title contenders do and dominate the teams that they are supposed to.
