Projected 2020 College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings for Week 13
By Zach Bigalke
Against former Ducks head coach Chip Kelly and the visiting UCLA Bruins, Oregon managed to survive a 38-35 battle on Saturday. Mario Cristobal’s squad improved to 3-0 on the year with the win. In the process they also remained the best hope for the Pac-12 to sneak into the College Football Playoff this season. Expect the Ducks to land in the top 10 of the selection committee’s first batch of rankings when they release on Tuesday.
Tyler Shough had a solid day at quarterback, throwing for 334 yards and three touchdowns on 19-of-30 passing and adding another 31 yards on 11 carries. The rest of the offense failed to live up to his productivity, with the running backs combining for just 57 yards on 23 carries. On the other side of the ball, Oregon’s vaunted defense was gashed by UCLA’s ground game for 267 yards and three rushing touchdowns but picked off Chase Griffin twice, one returned 58 yards by Jordan Happle for a score the other way.
With only a maximum of seven games for the selection committee to consider, Oregon continues to deal with an uphill battle to gain credibility. They next take the field on Black Friday for a Week 13 Civil War duel in Corvallis against Oregon State. If the Ducks get through their rival, a trip to Berkeley to face Cal and a visit from Washington stand between the Pac-12 North leaders and a spot in the conference championship.
