Projected 2020 College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings for Week 13
By Zach Bigalke
Ohio State had to fend off a furious comeback bid against Indiana in a top-10 showdown for the Big Ten East, but they ultimately held on for a 42-35 victory that will put them at No. 2 in the opening College Football Playoff selection committee rankings. Unlike the other polls that have favored Notre Dame, the committee is going to recognize the dominance of the Buckeyes and reward it accordingly.
Justin Fields was hardly perfect against the Hoosiers, throwing three interceptions along the way. Fields did finish with 300 yards and two touchdowns on 18-of-30 passing, and he also ran for 78 yards and a score. Master Teague III led the way on the ground with 169 yards and two rushing touchdowns. The Buckeyes defense gave up 491 yards to Michael Penix Jr. but also racked up a Shaun Wade pick-six and held Indiana scoreless after all three Fields interceptions.
With a secure position among the favorites in the Playoff field, Ohio State hits the road over the next two weeks. Ryan Day’s crew heads to Champaign in Week 13 to square off with Illinois, then opens December play at Michigan State. The regular-season finale on December 12 at home against Michigan should matter more for remaining undefeated than it does as a competitive rivalry game.
