College football’s Week 13 AP Poll showed that there is a new contender in the Big Ten and Oklahoma is back in the national spotlight.

Week 12 was a week of opportunity for a lot of smaller programs that don’t get a ton of games in the national spotlight. Northwestern, Cincinnati and Indiana all had big games to prove that they are contenders and not pretenders and all showed that they belong on the big stage and it was reflected in the Week 13 AP Poll.

Indiana may not have won the game, but they showed a lot of heart and did not quit in their bid to pull off a huge upset against Ohio State. I’m not someone who believes in quality losses, but Indiana proved a lot of people wrong and exposed some real concerns that Ohio State fans should have about their defense. If the Hoosiers can finish strong, they might be in a position to challenge for a spot in the New Year’s Six.

Northwestern was a touchdown underdog at home and they showed that they are a real contender in the Big Ten West and that they have one of the best defenses in the entire country. Last season was terrible for the Wildcats, but head coach Pat Fitzgerald has shown why he is one of the most respected coaches in the game and if they take care of business the rest of the regular season, they could be positioned to be in a winner take all Big Ten title game versus Ohio State.

Some teams proved to not be up to the task this weekend however. Oklahoma State’s offensive ineptitude came back to bite them and they lost yet another game to rival Oklahoma. Liberty had its undefeated season come to an end when their go-ahead field goal attempt was blocked and NC State came away with the win. Both teams are having good seasons, but these losses will sting.

Here are the winners and losers from the Week 13 AP Poll.
