Texas Football: 3 takeaways from gut-wrenching loss to Iowa State
By Andrew Tineo
2. Texas’ run defense looked improved
What has been Iowa State’s bread butter all year has been using tight ends and Breece Hall. Although Iowa State did the first, it did not do the other as efficiently. Iowa State averaged over 200 yards per game on the ground coming into this one.
Hall was stood up short of the century mark for the first time this season, as he ended his day with 91 yards and a touchdown. Even though Texas couldn’t do enough, it was very encouraging to do that well. One of the stronger units this year for Texas has been their run defense, so this isn’t too surprising. The Longhorns on average give up, just 118 yards per game.
However, it has been DeMarvion Overshown and Jospeh Ossai that stepped up and had big games for Texas.
One of the biggest keys to winning this game was limiting Hall and their rushing attack. Texas did more than enough to win this game, based off of how well they fended off Iowa State’s rushing game, as well as, stalling Iowa State in the red zone and on third down.
