Oklahoma State Football: 3 takeaways from tight win over Texas Tech

Oklahoma State football outlasted the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Stillwater this afternoon 50-44 in a critical Big 12 game for Oklahoma State.
It only fits that the Cowboys and Red Raiders would find themselves in a shootout. That is exactly what happened as the No. 23 Oklahoma State Cowboys outlasted the Texas Tech Red Raiders 50-44 this afternoon at Boone Pickens Stadium. Both teams combined for 1,278 yards and 94 points without overtime.
Oklahoma State running back Dezmon Jackson had his number called because both Chuba Hubbard and LD Brown were not available for the game. Jackson responded with 36 carries and a career-high 235 yards and three touchdowns. Not to be outdone, Texas Tech running back Sa’Rodorick Thompson ran for 133 yards and two touchdowns.
Both quarterbacks had huge games as well. Texas Tech quarterback Alan Bowman threw for 384 yards and three touchdowns. Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders threw for 222 yards and a touchdown, chipping in 78 rushing yards and another touchdown.
This was a 7-7 tie game at the end of the first quarter and 21-17 at halftime. Both teams exploded in the second half scoring a combined 56 points. There was a six-minute stretch where there were five touchdowns scored.
Oklahoma State’s victory keeps them in the race for the Big 12 title game against Oklahoma or Iowa State. Here are five takeaways from Saturday’s game.
