1. FAU at Georgia Southern

This was supposed to be FAU’s first game of the season and Georgia Southern’s first FBS game of the season, except the pandemic had other plans. COVID protocols sidelined enough players that this game had to be moved from September to December. Still, at least these two teams will get to play one another, as FAU comes in at 5-1, while Georgia Southern is 6-4.

The key matchup to this game is going to be whether or not an excellent FAU defense can hold up against Georgia Southern and their spread option attack. It’s a unique offense, designed to put edge players in a position to make a decision on who to take on, and once they’ve made their decision you read it and force them into being wrong.

Eagles quarterback, Shai Werts, is as good as they come at running this offense, which means the Owls defense needs to be at its best. Luckily for FAU, their defense has been dominant all season, and as long as they keep their eye and gap discipline as a unit, they should be able to contain Georgia Southern.

FAU has had issues on offense this season, only scoring about 21 points per game. Georgia Southern is far from a pushover on defense themselves. This will likely put even more pressure on the FAU defense to be nearly perfect against an offense that it is almost impossible to be perfect against.
