3. Coastal Carolina dominated time of possession

It is a simple, but effective concept in football. Keep the ball out of the opposing offense’s hands and that will give your team a better chance to win. That is exactly the gameplan Coastal Carolina instilled and executed from start to finish.

The Chanticleers held the ball for 37:51, while BYU only held it for 22:09. In doing so, they only had two 3-and-outs the entire game, while also having two touchdown drives that went for five-plus minutes.

As mentioned before, CJ Marable was the star of the game. The reason the Chanticleers were able to dominate so much of the clock was due to the effectiveness of Marable and the running game. QB Grayson McCall was also efficient on the ground, tacking on 68 yards on 12 carries.

Reese White and Shermari Jones also played a valuable role in the running attack, combining for 19 carries, 81 yards, and a touchdown by White.

Another key part of this win, was the effort from the defensive line. The stat line may not say it, but they put Zach Wilson under duress for a lot of the game. Jeffrey Gunther was all over the field with constant pressure, four tackles and a forced fumble.

Coastal Carolina played an old school style of football today against a high-powered new school offense. Chalk one up for the Chanticleers as their style proved to be best today.
