Tulsa overcame a slow start in Annapolis to claim their sixth win of the 2020 season. Tied 6-6 midway through the third quarter against navy, the Golden Hurricane pulled away with the final three scores of the game to win 19-6 on the road and improve to 6-1. The win locked Tulsa into the American Athletic Conference championship game and will help them climb a spot or two this week in the College Football Playoff selection committee’s Top 25 rankings.

Zach Smith struggled on the road, completing only 40 percent of his passes for 168 yards and one touchdown. The ground game averaged just under three yards per carry, finishing with 128 yards out of the backfield. A testament to the strength of the Tulsa defense is that the Golden Hurricane outgained run-heavy Navy on the ground. The Golden Hurricane held the Midshipmen to 2.4 yards per carry and gave up no runs of 20 yards or longer.

Tulsa plays Cincinnati at home in Week 15 the first of back-to-back games against the Bearcats. The winner will earn the right to host the AAC title game on December 19, and the Golden Hurricane could play their way into a New Year’s Six invitation if they take down Cincinnati twice in a row.
