Three teams currently unranked entering week 15 play, remain undefeated and determined to prove that they are for real.

There have been multiple mid-major programs that have done well this season due to major conferences unable to play multiple non-conference games or none at all.

Some Group of 5 teams such as Cincinnati and BYU who are both undefeated have been given respect this season by being ranked in the top 15. However, some other teams have not been given the respect that they may deserve as they have all won at least four games and are undefeated after week 14.

There also were teams like Marshall and Western Michigan who entered this weekend undefeated but both teams were upset by teams with a combined record of 1-6 prior to their games on Saturday. However, three unranked teams remained undefeated after their games this weekend.

Let’s take a look at the four teams and how they ranked in the undefeated unranked rankings.

Team: San Jose State

Conference: Mountain West

Record: 5-0

Victories: Air Force, New Mexico, @ San Diego State, UNLV, and @Hawai’i

Why they are undefeated: Their defense is the main reason that the Spartans are undefeated. They held Air Force to only six points, they had two games where they contained the opposing team’s offense and held them to only 17 points, and they have been able to hold their opponents to 24 points or less in every game this season. The offense has played well scoring 30 plus points in three out of their five games this season but their defense is why they are undefeated.

Team: Buffalo Bulls

Conference: Mid American

Record: 4-0

Victories: @Northern Illinois, Miami-Ohio, @Bowling Green, and Kent State

Why they are undefeated: Their offense is why Buffalo is undefeated as the Bulls are a high-powered, scoring machine ran offense that has been able to put many points on the scoreboard this season. The Bulls offense has scored at least 42 points a game this season. Their season-high was achieved when they put up 72 on Kent State in a victory last week against the Golden Flashes. They opened their season scoring 49 on the road against Northern Illinois and even though their game this weekend against Ohio was canceled, they already clinched the MAC East division championship regardless if they win next week.

Team: Colorado

Conference: Pac 12

Record: 4-0

Victories: UCLA, @Stanford, San Diego State, and @Arizona

Why they are undefeated: Colorado’s ability to run the ball and control the clock. The Buffaloes star running back Jarek Broussard ran for over 300 yards rushing against Arizona in his best overall game this season and he was able to run the ball three times into the endzone against UCLA.

Broussard, through four games, has a total of 733 yards rushing on the season. Colorado’s starting quarterback Sam Noyer has four rushing touchdowns on the year and the Buffaloes back up running back Jaren Mangham has two rushing touchdowns on the season.

These three teams may or may not be ranked when the week 15 rankings come out early next week. Also maybe neither of these three teams have played very tough competition in comparison to their counterparts. However, give credit where credit is due and these three programs have done everything that has been asked of them up to this point in the season.
