Iowa State is for real

We already knew that Iowa State football was legit. But the way the Cyclones just destroyed West Virginia Saturday was like something you would see from an elite program.

It’s not like the Mountaineers are an awful team or something. They came into the game with a 5-3 record and one of the better defenses in the Big 12. But still, West Virginia was no match for Iowa State which is firing on all cylinders right now.

Before the game, Iowa State clinched its first berth in the Big 12 title game, then quarterback Brock Purdy put on a show, accounting for three total touchdowns and only three incompletions.

What head coach Matt Campbell has been able to do in Ames is nothing short of extraordinary. We’ll see if Iowa State can finish it off and dethrone Oklahoma as the Big 12 champions in two weeks, but this team is for real and if the College Football Playoff allowed more teams, Iowa State is one I doubt few would want to see.
