Texas Football: 3 Head coach candidates after Urban Meyer says no
Matt Campbell
I don’t work in the Texas athletic department, but if I did and decided to move on from Herman, than Matt Campbell would be my No. 1 choice.
It’s a little strange because Campbell coaches in the Big 12 conference and since he already has Iowa State headed for the Big 12 title game this year, you wonder if he would jump ship for Texas?
Certainly, the money would be much better than what he’s making at Iowa State and he’s definitely a sought-after commodity.
The fact that he has built a consistent winner at Iowa State is a great selling point, but he did the same thing at Toledo and he has done a great job of building a culture of winning. He is also said to have a great eye for talent and he’s obviously getting the most out of his players.
Campbell also knows the Big 12 and would probably be able to recruit really well in the state of Texas, as well as nationally which is always a big key at Texas. It’s worth making a run at him, even though it’s very possible that he would turn it down.
