USC Football: 3 takeaways from win over Washington State in Week 14
By Dante Pryor
1. Quick takeaways for Washington State
The Cougars have a long way to go offensively. First-year head coach Nick Rolovich knows that it will take some time for the offense to take shape and round into form. It does start up front, and the Trojans pressured Washington State all night tonight. It did not hurt that the Trojans did not respect the downfield passing of Washington State.
However, Rolovich has to be excited about how the defense responded after giving up 28 points in the first quarter. The Cougars defense battled the rest of the game, giving up just ten points the rest of the game and limiting the Trojans to one rushing yard.
Quick takeaways for USC
The Trojans flashed but could not follow up a sterling first quarter. This was the perfect game to score some style points. USC had a prime time game with no other college games on television tonight. They came out and gave Washington State the business for one quarter. It was a defensive battle for the rest of the game.
Head coach Clay Helton has to be concerned about the offensive line. USC ran for just one yard against an outmanned, undersized defensive line for Washington State. It has to be of some concern that USC could not take advantage of the obvious match up advantages.
